Galileo Church

We seek and shelter spiritual refugees, rally health for all who come, and fortify every tender soul with the strength to follow Jesus into a life of world-changing service.

OUR MISSIONAL PRIORITIES:

1. We do justice for LGBTQ+ humans, and support the people who love them.

2. We do kindness for people with mental illness and in emotional distress, and celebrate neurodiversity.

3. We do beauty for our God-Who-Is-Beautiful.

4. We do real relationship, no bullshit, ever.

5. We do whatever it takes to share this good news with the world God still loves.

In January 2019 Galileo Church added a missional priority to our work: “We do whatever it takes to share this good news with the world God still loves!”

“Whatever it takes” means turning our life together inside out and reaching out to you through the internet, wherever you are. We’re inviting you into a beautiful, safe, strengthening experience of worship. We want to help you reconnect with the God who made you, knows you, and loves you best of all. Our Christian faith (or better, our discipleship of Jesus) has shown us that we all belong in God’s heart.

So what if we could be your church even if you don’t live here? I mean, not just you could “watch us” or you could observe what we do from the outside. What if you could be a full participant in the ongoing ministry of Galileo Church, no matter where you live?

We’re feeling really lucky (blessed?) that God put this on our hearts just over a year before the global pandemic of 2020 hit and sent us all into a whole new realm of “spiritual refugee.” In March, churches started scrambling to get something going in the way of online community. We felt really lucky to have a head start, and really humbled by the realization of how far we still had (still have as of my writing this in September, 2020) to go to get this thing running smoothly and sustainably.

How does it work?

You have several options for online participation in worship.

  • Watch anonymously, without registering with Church Online or our microsite. Your participation remains completely private. You won’t be able to join the conversation in the group chat, and we won’t be able to reach out to you.

  • Make an account on ChurchOnline (the site where you watch worship), so we can know that you’re there with us.

  •  Join the conversation in the group chat! Just as you might whisper to a friend if you were present IRL, you can ask questions or offer comments on what’s happening. (“Can I get an amen?”) You might choose to introduce yourself and ask others to do the same.

  •  Live tweet using #GalileoInsideOut for more public engagement.

Livestream hosts are in worship every week facilitating the experience. Learn more about that they’re doing here.

Galileo Church has a distinctive “vibe” in worship. Learn what to expect here, and here.

It’s so much bigger than us.

Through our Inside Out Worship Livestream we want to build communities of belonging for people who can’t get to the Big Red Barn for worship. We encourage and support worship parties where friends gather IRL (in real life!) to worship together along with the Inside Out livestream. We’ve got some ideas about how that could work, posted here. Ask Remi what it might look like for you to host a worship party—and/or help them figure it out. We’re still not sure, tbh.
