We lit candles for the things we've renounced (or need to renounce) in order to be with Jesus. And we floated them on the waters of the baptistery.

Nets, boats, dads, stability, certainty, comfort... What does the baptized life call us to renounce? How lightly do we hold the people and stuff (not the same things, we know) that are dear to us? Does God reign, and does it matter?

We grow into our understanding of what it means to be immersed in God, drowning in God, over the course of a lifetime. So no matter whether you were dabbed, sprinkled or dunked; at birth or 8 or 12 or 30 -- you are God's beloved child, and God is so pleased with you.

John the Baptist, echoing his ancestor in faith Isaiah, prophesied about a great equalizer who would bring mountains down and raise valleys up.
